The Zwartbles is a breed of domestic sheep originating in the Friesland region of the north Netherlands. There it was primarily used for the production of milk as well as lamb and mutton. The breed is known for being strong footed with a striking appearance. Both the rams and ewes are 'polled', meaning neither sexes posses horns. The first zwartbles were imported to the UK in the 1990's and due to the similar weather conditions in the country compared to the Netherlands, the sheep were kept very successfully. Mother zwartbles are renowned for being highly patient and successful.
