We’ve once again partnered up with the wonderful team at Wildlife Drawing London to give you the chance to sketch and learn about the clever, curious primate inhabitants.
What better way to begin the month of May than by meeting some marvellous monkeys? (Say that five times fast!)
We will tip our cap to Capuchins Medellin Diablo and Carlos, ex-pets who were living in a London flat before being rehomed to the zoo. Capuchins are highly intelligent and love nothing more than solving the enrichment puzzles that the keepers give them to work on every day.
Then we’ll shake our tails with the squirrel monkeys Ursula, Medusa and Kronk - who were rehomed to Battersea after beginning their lives being used as “decorations” at parties.
Lastly we’ll meet some of the smallest and most endangered primates in the world- cotton-top tamarins Nellie and Diego. These tiny monkeys are named for the white fluffy fur that they have on their heads, which they puff up when they feel threatened.
The class will be taught by nature loving artist Jennie Webber, who will provide all the creative advice you need to get your monkey sketches jumping off the page. We will provide all the art materials, paper and drawing boards so there’s no need to bring any art kit along unless you’d like to. All abilities are welcome, and all artistic styles are celebrated!
Children are welcome to attend but they must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
And the best part? 10% of profits will be donated to Cikananga Wildlife Center, a wonderful Indonesian charity that rescues and rehabilitates animals from the exotic pet trade.
